Greyson Richards is the son of Erin Richards, formerly Erin Kane, the sister of Thomas Kane, a.k.a., the Cloak of Darkness. In mid-1942, Grey came to live with Kane after his parents vanished under mysterious circumstances (Investigator Comics #42). At first resistant to the presence of the teen, Kane eventually warmed to him. Kane eventually discerned that Richards is an XO, and while initially opposed, allowed Grey to become his partner after the latter discovered his identity and saved him from the Vaudevillian (Cloak of Darkness #6). Taking the code name Nightbird, Richards has continued to assist the Cloak, as well as handling cases on his own. He recently teamed with three other teen-aged XOs to form the Young Aces (New Venture #6), as has come to be regarded as the group's leader.
